Founded in 1872 and headquartered in Indianapolis, IN. American United Life Insurance (AUL) has , since 2000, been a proud member of the OneAmerica family.
Since it's humble beginnings, the group has expanded it's reach in the financial services market. AUL is now listed as a 1.5-2 Billion dollar company.
American United Life Insurance Company Ratings
AUL has received stellar ratings for financial stability. This indicates that the company is in strong position to meet it's obligations going forward.
A.M. Best Company: AUL life insurance rating given by A.M. Best was an A+ (Superior). This is the second highest possible out of 16 total ratings.
Standard & Poor's: AUL life insurance rating given by Standard & Poor's was an AA (Very Strong). This is the fourth highest out of 21 possible total ratings.

American United Life Insurance - (Term)
AUL offers traditional term life insurance. The policies offered are 10,15,20, and 30 year terms like many of the best life insurance companies.
AUL term policies have conversion privileges that are policy specific.
Other AUL Products
In addition to it's flagship term life insurance product, AUL also offers Universal life insurance and whole life insurance. Although these products can be found with better pricing in the open marketplace, they are worth noting.

AUL Term Life Insurance Rates and Quotes
American United Life insurance Company only markets it's products directly and though OneAmerica. This is a disadvantage for the consumer because it makes apples to apples comparisons less convenient.
Whereas you can use the quote tool on this page to get quotes from most of the leading carriers, you will have to go to the AUL/OneAmerica website and make contact with an AUL agent in order to get quotes.
Are AUL Term Life Insurance Rates Competitive?
Because AUL / OneAmerica uses a sales model that requires a face to face appointment to get rates, it is difficult to ascertain the competitiveness.
However, our experience has been that when a market participant is not willing to be transparent with pricing , it is unlikely that the deal be offered is as good as those that are transparent.
Cases where AUL is not a great choice
While AUL may be competitive with major carriers for certain circumstances, the fact remains that different carriers have differing appetites for specific health risks.
Is AUL competitive on all of them? Not likely.
If you have a specific condition, you are best off speaking with an independent agent to find out which carrier will give you the best chance to get approved at a great rate. You can then compare that with AUL if you wish to make an appointment with a representative.
While One America may be a reputable life insurance company, it is hard to recommend with out being able to access pricing and underwriting guidelines.
That being said, if you are using OneAmerica for retirement services, it may make sense to keep everything under one roof.

Is American United Life Insurance Company right for you? It really all depends on your situation.
If you have notable health impairment(s), you will likely be better suited by shopping around on the open market where it is convenient to make apples to apple comparisons.
Moreover, having the use of an independent expert who can send your application to a carrier that is likely to view you in the best possible light has value that AUL can't offer.
However, if you happy with retirement services being provided by OneAmerica and in good health, it may be convenient to keep things under one roof.
